Mezuzah for Every Home

What Drives Us

A mezuzah on the doorpost is a required mitzvah for a Jewish home. But not everyone knows where to get a kosher mezuzah and how to hang it properly, and some don't even realize it needs to be done. Our program helps with this: we bring a kosher mezuzah right to your home and hang it with a blessing, as it should be.

From time to time a sofer (scribe) comes and checks already-hanging mezuzahs for anyone who wishes - it's important that the text inside is kosher and clear, and this needs to be checked periodically. For example, one member of the community had a mezuzah that had been hanging for a long time, but an inspection showed it was unfit - so we hung a new one.

Your donation covers a kosher mezuzah scroll and a case for a family that doesn't have one, as well as on-site checks by a sofer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this program needed?
A mezuzah is a required mitzvah for a Jewish home. We help those who don't have one or who don't know where to get a kosher one and how to hang it.
How does it work?
We bring a kosher mezuzah to the person's home and hang it with a blessing. And a visiting sofer (scribe) checks already-hanging mezuzahs for anyone who wishes.
Why check a mezuzah if it's already hanging?
The text inside needs to be checked over time to make sure it is kosher. Sometimes a mezuzah that has been hanging a long time turns out to be unfit - then we hang a new one.
What do donations go toward?
A kosher mezuzah scroll and a case for a family that doesn't have a mezuzah, and on-site checks by a sofer.
