What Drives Us

The Tefillin Drive helps every Jew fulfill the mitzvah of tefillin - right here and now. This idea came from the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe: to make the commandment accessible and simple for anyone, wherever they may be.

We have a portable tefillin stand that our volunteers take out onto the city streets - anyone can stop, put on tefillin, and say a prayer. Rabbis and volunteers help do everything properly. From time to time a sofer (scribe) comes to check the tefillin: it is important that the scrolls inside are kosher. For those members of the minyan who had no tefillin of their own, we gave them a set as a gift.

Your donation goes toward new sets of tefillin for those who don't have any, toward checking the scrolls with a sofer, and toward running the tefillin stand. One set is someone's first - and perhaps daily - tefillin for the rest of their life.
